I have often been told,
“the special claims of our denomination.”
But the fruit of the spirit is love;
if I may be so bold,
to rest my faith until further examination.
If history books can show,
some issue with our claims,
it may be wrong to assume unique authority.
And if other faiths can know,
by the Spirit all the same,
I may have to rethink our holy monopoly.
But what am I to make
of answers to prayers
which filled me with comfort and peace?
What do they feel like
those confident airs,
but the arms of his loving embrace?
If our parents in heaven,
know how to love me,
without man-made terms and conditions;
Then my siblings on earth
are equally deserving,
and exclusivist claims a tenuous position.
